The fellowshop hall was packed as we enjoyed a quick lunch and launched into our annual labor of love, stuffing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. We easily met our goal of 300 shoeboxes!

Tonight we gathered in the fellowship hall to assemble the cardboard shoeboxes and prepare all the goodies that go in them. The work went by quickly and we all had a good time. The pizza wasn’t bad, either

Blankets for Childcare Disaster Relief Trailer

For the past two months, church members have been busily crocheting, knitting, tying, and quilting these beautiful blankets for children who may have lost everything in a disaster. The blankets are destined for the new SBCV Childcare Disaster Relief Trailer, so they will be available whenever a disaster strikes.

Disaster Relief Training

Today two of our members, Stan and Carol VanDruff, attended The SBCV-hosted Disaster Relief Training at Spotswood Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, VA. Between the two of them they attended classes in the Incident Command System, assessment, flood recovery, feeding, and evangelism.

For general information about what’s involved in volunteering, please see the SBCV’s Volunteer Travel Handbook. Please note that in order participate in an SBCV-sponsored relief effort, you must be certified; and to be certified, you must have received training within the past three years.

Operation Christmas Child was center-stage today through the 21st as Hanover acted as the official collection point for King George. By the end of the week, we delivered over 500 shoeboxes to the collection center in Fredericksburg.

Following the morning service, the church gathered in the fellowship hall to stuff over 200 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes full of toys, necessities, fun, laughter, and love. There was a place for hands of all ages.

We had our joyous work cut out for us, so we shared a good lunch before starting. The afternoon was great fun, and there was the usual chaos as the maelstrom commenced, but it was over all too soon.

OCC Shoebox Decorating Party

We upped our goal to 200 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child this year, so we gathered tonight to decorate the boxes ahead of time. No talent was required, just a willing spirit. Whole families showed up—Grandma, Grandpa and the kids! And we didn’t even need to get dinner as pizza was provided.

Collection of Buckets of Hope for Haiti

Noon–3:00 PM—We collected 17 Buckets of Hope for Haiti. That evening we delivered them to the relay point in Stafford.

Shoebox-Packing for Operation Christmas Child

We packed our shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child following the morning service.

From Monday, November 16 — Sunday, November 22 we were the official drop-off location for King George County. We received shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child from individuals and churches in the surrounding area and packaged them for shipment to the processing center in North Carolina.

2008 Operation Christmas Child

Again this year Hanover packed a truckload of shoe boxes for the Samaratin’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. We got together after service, had a nice lunch, and everyone helped stuff shoe boxes full of toiletries, books, toys, and love.

Later in the week, Hanover became the relay station for county residents and churches to drop off their shoe boxes.
