As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness. (Psalm 17:15—NKJV)

Did it ever strike you that nothing ever satisfies the deep down thirst of the soul? There is never a prized purchase which is the last. There is never a holiday that is completely "Courier and Ives" in success and feel. There is never a human relationship that is all you can possibly desire.

I believe it is by God’s design. What would life be like if there were no need of another great dessert, the pursuit of a better relationship, or the need for improvement? After all God uses the terms "hunger" and "thirst" to great effect in the Bible.

Some of the first inklings of your need to be saved came from a Holy Spirit implanted recognition that sin does not truly satisfy. Then came the awful realization that you could not satisfy the just demands of God when His wrath was revealed against your sin. And finally relief was yours when you accepted the forgiveness wrought through Jesus Christ’s satisfaction of the justice of God on the cross of Calvary.

It is in God’s Word we find the true nature of man is to be dissatisfied in this world of sin. Striving for excellence in obedience, sanctification and service is required of those who are born again. "Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled," our Lord says in Matthew 5:6.

Sometimes we are unsettled thinking that something is wrong when we are unsatisfied. As long as our dissatisfaction is not rooted in sin we are in good company. David gives us the answer to the deep down thirst of the redeemed soul.

There is a day when satisfaction is fully appreciated and guaranteed for the believer. It is the day when we are awakened in His image at the end of our earthly pilgrimage.

Count your blessings and thirst for righteousness all the days of your sojourn, dear saint. Satisfaction in Christ’s likeness will be sweet indeed.
